BNS Section 225 — Threat of injury to induce person to refrain from applying for protection to public servant

Summary

Whoever threatens to harm someone in order to stop that person from asking a public servant for legal protection, or from continuing to ask for such protection, commits an offence. The threat must be aimed at making the person give up on filing a legal application for protection against injury, where the public servant has the legal authority to provide that protection or to arrange for it to be provided. The punishment for this offence is imprisonment of either kind for up to one year, or a fine, or both.

Official Text

Whoever holds out any threat of injury to any person for the purpose of inducing that person to refrain or desist from making a legal application for protection against any injury to any public servant legally empowered as such to give such protection, or to cause such protection to be given, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.
