BNSS Section 489 — Discharge of sureties

CHAPTER XXXV PROVISIONS AS TO BAIL AND BONDS

Criminal

Summary

A person who has guaranteed (stood surety for) someone released on bail can ask a Magistrate to be released from that guarantee. When this request is made, the Magistrate must order the arrested person to be brought to court. Once the person appears or surrenders, the Magistrate will cancel the guarantee and order the person to find new guarantors; if they cannot, the Magistrate may send them to jail.
