Summary

This section overrides any other provision in the Act to allow the Central Government to forgive delays in two specific situations.

Under clause (a), if an application that must be made to the Central Government under any provision of this Act is not submitted within the time limit set for it, the Central Government may condone the delay. This power can only be exercised for reasons that the Government must record in writing.

Under clause (b), if a document that must be filed with the Registrar under any provision of this Act is not filed within the time limit set for it, the Central Government may also condone that delay. As with clause (a), this requires the Government to record its reasons in writing.

Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act,—

(a) where any application required to be made to the Central Government under any provision of this Act in respect of any matter is not made within the time specified therein, that Government may, for reasons to be recorded in writing, condone the delay; and

(b) where any document required to be filed with the Registrar under any provision of this Act is not filed within the time specified therein, the Central Government may, for reasons to be recorded in writing, condone the delay.
