Constitution Section 67 — Term of office of Vice-President
Part V — THE UNION — The President and Vice-President
Constitutional
Summary
The Vice-President serves for a term of five years starting from the day they take office. However, they can resign early by writing to the President, or be removed before the term ends if the Rajya Sabha passes a resolution to remove them by a majority of all its members and the Lok Sabha agrees to it. No such removal resolution can be moved unless at least fourteen days’ notice has been given. Even after the five-year term ends, the Vice-President continues in office until a new Vice-President takes over.
