Summary

Every person elected or chosen as a member of either House of Parliament must take an oath or make an affirmation in the form given in the Third Schedule of the Constitution before they can start sitting in the House. This oath or affirmation must be made and signed in front of the President of India, or someone the President has appointed for this purpose.

Every member of either House of Parliament shall, before taking his seat, make and subscribe before the President, or some person appointed in that behalf by him, an oath or affirmation according to the form set out for the purpose in the Third Schedule.
