Consumer Protection Act Section 13 — Appointment of officers, experts, professionals and other employees of Central Authority

Summary

Sub-section (1) says that the Central Government will provide the Central Authority with the number of officers and other employees that the government considers necessary for the Authority to do its work properly under this Act.

Sub-section (2) states that the salaries, allowances, and other terms and conditions of service for these officers and employees of the Central Authority will be set according to what is prescribed, meaning as laid down by rules.

Sub-section (3) allows the Central Authority to hire experts and professionals, following a procedure specified by regulations, as it thinks necessary to help it carry out its functions. These experts must be people of integrity and ability with special knowledge and experience in areas such as consumer rights and welfare, consumer policy, law, medicine, food safety, health, engineering, product safety, commerce, economics, public affairs, or administration.

(1) The Central Government shall provide the Central Authority such number of officers and other employees as it considers necessary for the efficient performance of its functions under this Act.

(2) The salaries and allowances payable to, and the other terms and conditions of service of, the officers and other employees of the Central Authority appointed under this Act shall be such as may be prescribed.

(3) The Central Authority may engage, in accordance with the procedure specified by regulations, such number of experts and professionals of integrity and ability, who have special knowledge and experience in the areas of consumer rights and welfare, consumer policy, law, medicine, food safety, health, engineering, product safety, commerce, economics, public affairs or administration, as it deems necessary to assist it in the discharge of its functions under this Act.
