Summary

Sub-section (1) requires the Central Government to set up a National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, which will be called the National Commission, through an official notification.

Sub-section (2) states that the National Commission will normally operate in the National Capital Region and can also carry out its functions at other locations that the Central Government, after consulting the National Commission, announces in the Official Gazette. The proviso to this sub-section allows the Central Government to create regional branches of the National Commission at any places it considers appropriate, also through a notification.

(1) The Central Government shall, by notification, establish a National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, to be known as the National Commission.

(2) The National Commission shall ordinarily function at the National Capital Region and perform its functions at such other places as the Central Government may in consultation with the National Commission notify in the Official Gazette:

Provided that the Central Government may, by notification, establish regional Benches of the National Commission, at such places, as it deems fit.
