Hindu Marriage Act Section 20 — Contents and verification of petitions
General
Summary
Every petition filed under this Act must clearly state the facts that support the claim for relief, as far as the nature of the case allows. Except in a petition for declaring a marriage null and void under section 11, the petition must also state that there is no collusion between the petitioner and the other spouse. The statements in the petition must be verified by the petitioner or another competent person in the same way that legal plaints are verified, and these verified statements may be used as evidence during the hearing.
