IEA Section 11 — When facts not otherwise relevant become relevant

Summary

Facts that are not directly related to a case can still be considered in court if they contradict a fact that is being disputed or is important to the case. They are also relevant if, on their own or combined with other facts, they make it very likely or very unlikely that a disputed or important fact exists or does not exist.

Facts not otherwise relevant are relevant—

if they are inconsistent with any fact in issue or relevant fact;
if by themselves or in connection with other facts they make the existence or non-existence of any fact in issue or relevant fact highly probable or improbable.
