In cases where a jury or assessors are involved, they are allowed to ask questions to witnesses. However, they must do so through the judge or with the judge's permission, and the judge must consider the question proper and one that the judge could have asked themselves.

In cases tried by jury or with assessors, the jury or assessors may put any question to the witnesses, through or by leave of the Judge, which the Judge himself might put and which he considers proper.
