As the section puts it: “shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees, or with both”

Summary

If a person refuses to sign a statement that they themselves have made, when a public servant who has the legal authority to do so requires them to sign it, that person commits an offence. The punishment for this offence can be simple imprisonment for up to three months, or a fine of up to five hundred rupees, or both.

Whoever refuses to sign any statement made by him, when required to sign that statement by a public servant legally competent to require that he shall sign that statement, shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees, or with both.
