IPC Section 182 — False information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person

Summary

If a person gives false information to a government official, knowing or believing it is false, and does so with the intention of making that official use their legal authority to harm someone else, that person commits an offence under this section. The law covers situations where the person either intends to cause harm or knows that harm is likely to result from the false information.

Whoever gives to any public servant any information which he knows or believes to be false, intending thereby to cause, or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby cause such public servant:
