IPC Section 461 — Dishonestly breaking open receptacle containing property

Summary

If a person dishonestly, or with the intention of causing mischief, breaks open or unfastens a closed container that holds property, or that they believe holds property, they can be punished. The punishment can be imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both.

Official Text

Whoever dishonestly or with intent to commit mischief, breaks open or unfastens any closed receptacle which contains or which he believes to contain property, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
