IPC Section 471 — Using as genuine a forged document

Summary

If a person knowingly or with reason to believe that a document is forged, uses it as if it were real, and does so fraudulently or dishonestly, they can be punished in the same way as if they had forged the document themselves.

Official Text

Whoever fraudulently or dishonestly uses as genuine any document which he knows or has reason to believe to be a forged document, shall be punished in the same manner as if he had forged such document.
