IPC Section 54 — Commutation of sentence of death

Summary

In any case where a death sentence has been given, the appropriate government can change that punishment to any other punishment allowed under this Code, and this can be done without asking for the offender's permission.

Official Text

In every case in which sentence of death shall have been passed, the appropriate Government may, without the consent of the offender, commute the punishment for any other punishment provided by this Code.
