Indian Contract Act Section 182 — “Agent” and “principal” defined

Summary

An agent is a person who is employed to do something for someone else, or to stand in for that person when dealing with other people. The person for whom the act is done, or who is represented in this way, is called the principal.

An “agent” is a person employed to do any act for another, or to represent another in dealings with third persons. The person for whom such act is done, or who is so represented, is called the “principal”.
