Summary

If a person who is supposed to receive the benefit of a promise (the promisee) fails to provide the person making the promise (the promisor) with reasonable help or opportunity to carry out that promise, then the promisor is not held responsible for not performing the promise to the extent that the failure to perform was caused by that lack of help or refusal. In simple terms, if you block or hinder someone from doing what they promised you, you cannot later blame them for not doing it.

If any promisee neglects or refuses to afford the promisor reasonable facilities for the performance of his promise, the promisor is excused by such neglect or refusal as to any non-performance caused thereby. Illustration
