Summary

The owner of a motor vehicle must, when asked by a police officer who has been authorised by the State Government for this purpose, provide all information they have about the name, address, and licence of the driver or conductor. This duty applies when that driver or conductor is accused of any offence under this Act.

The owner must also give any such information that they could reasonably find out by making a proper effort, even if they do not already have it in their possession.

The owner of a motor vehicle, the driver or conductor of which is accused of any offence under this Act shall, on the demand of any police officer authorised in this behalf by the State Government, give all information regarding the name and address of, and the licence held by, the driver or conductor which is in his possession or could by reasonable diligence be ascertained by him.
