Motor Vehicles Act Section 137 — Power of Central Government to make rules

CHAPTER VIII CONTROL OF TRAFFIC

Summary

The Central Government may make rules covering all or any of the following matters.

Under clause (a), the rules may specify the occasions on which drivers of motor vehicles must give signals, as required under section 121.

Under clause (aa), the rules may set standards for protective headgear and provide measures for the safety of children below the age of four years who are riding, as covered under section 129.

Under clause (b), the rules may prescribe the manner in which licences and certificates must be produced to a police officer, as required under section 130.

Under clause (c), the rules may provide for limits of urban cities, as determined by State Governments under sub-section (1) of section 136A.

Under clause (d), the rules may provide for electronic monitoring and enforcement, as covered under sub-section (2) of section 136A.

The Central Government may make rules to provide for all or any of the following matters, namely:—

(a) the occasions on which signals shall be made by drivers of motor vehicles and such signals under section 121; 4[

(aa) providing for the standards of protective headgear and measures for the safety of children below the age of four years riding under section 129;]

(b) the manner in which the licences and certificates may be produced to the police officer under section 130. 4[

(c) providing for limits of urban city by the State Governments under sub-section (1) of section 136A; and

(d) providing for electronic monitoring and enforcement under sub-section (2) of section 136A.]
