POCSO Act Section 1 — Short title, extent and commencement

Summary

Sub-section (1) gives the official name of this law: the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

Sub-section (2) states that this law applies across the entire country of India.

Sub-section (3) says the law will take effect on a date chosen by the Central Government, which will announce that date through an official government publication called the Official Gazette.

Official Text

(1) This Act may be called the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

(2) It extends to the whole of India, .

(3) It shall come into force on such date2 as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
