POSH Act Section 1 — Short title, extent and commencement

Summary

Sub-section (1) gives the official name of this law: the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

Sub-section (2) states that this law applies across the entire country of India.

Sub-section (3) says the law will take effect on a date that the Central Government chooses and announces through an official government notification.

Official Text

(1) This Act may be called the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

(2) It extends to the whole of India.

(3) It shall come into force on such date1 as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
