Specific Relief Act Section 32 — What instruments may be partially cancelled

CHAPTER V CANCELLATION OF INSTRUMENTS

General

Summary

If a single document covers several separate rights or obligations, a court can cancel only the part that is disputed or invalid, while leaving the rest of the document in force. This is allowed when it is appropriate to do so.

Official Text

Where an instrument is evidence of different rights or different obligations, the court may, in a proper case, cancel it in part and allow it to stand for the residue.
