Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act Section 50 — Procedure after arrest.- Any person arrested for an offence under this Act shall be informed, as soon as may be, of the grounds for such arrest and shall be produced before the nearest Magistrate within a period of twenty- four hours of such arrest excluding the time necessary for the journey from the place of arrest to the Court of the Magistrate; and no such person shall be detained in custody beyond the said period without the authority of a Magistrate]

Summary

Any person arrested for an offence under this Act must be told, as soon as possible, the grounds for the arrest. The arrested person must be produced before the nearest Magistrate within twenty-four hours of the arrest, not counting the time needed for the journey from the place of arrest to the Magistrate's court. No such person may be kept in custody beyond that twenty-four hour period without the authority of a Magistrate.
