BSA Section 142 — Examination of witnesses

CHAPTER X OF EXAMINATION OF WITNESSES

General

Summary

Sub-section (1) states that when a party calls a witness to give evidence, the questioning of that witness by the party who called him is called his examination-in-chief.

Sub-section (2) states that the questioning of a witness by the adverse party, meaning the party on the opposite side of the case, is called his cross-examination.

Sub-section (3) states that if, after the cross-examination is over, the party who originally called the witness questions him again, that further questioning is called his re-examination.

(1) The examination of a witness by the party who calls him shall be called his examination-in-chief.

(2) The examination of a witness by the adverse party shall be called his cross-examination.

(3) The examination of a witness, subsequent to the cross-examination, by the party who called him, shall be called his re-examination.
