IEA Section 76 — Certified copies of public documents

Chapter 5

Civil

Summary

If a person has the legal right to inspect a public document, the government officer in charge of that document must provide a copy of it upon request, after the person pays the required fees. The officer must also add a certificate at the bottom of the copy stating that it is a true copy of the document or the relevant part. This certificate must include the date, the officer’s name and official title, and a seal if the officer is legally allowed to use one. Copies that meet these requirements are called certified copies.
