Summary

Evidence can be presented in court to explain the meaning of writing that is hard to read or not commonly understood, such as foreign words, old or technical terms, local sayings, abbreviations, or words used in a special way.

Evidence may be given to show the meaning of illegible or not commonly intelligible characters, of foreign, obsolete, technical, local and provincial expressions, of abbreviations and of words used in a peculiar sense.
