Motor Vehicles Act Section 11 — Additions to driving licence

CHAPTER II LICENSING OF DRIVERS OF MOTOR VEHICLES

Civil

Summary

Sub-section (1) allows a person who already holds a driving licence for one class or description of motor vehicles to apply to any licensing authority in the State where they live or run their business, asking for another class or description of motor vehicles to be added to that licence. This is possible only if the person is not currently disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for that other class or description. The application must be made in the form, with the documents, and with the fees prescribed by the Central Government.

Sub-section (2) states that the rules of section 9 will apply to such an application as if it were an application for a fresh licence to drive the class or description of motor vehicles the applicant wants added. This is subject to any rules prescribed by the Central Government. Additionally, the licensing authority may, before issuing the licence, verify the identity of the applicant in the manner prescribed by the Central Government.
