Summary

A State Government can set a multiplier for fines under this Act, but only within conditions laid down by the Central Government. The multiplier must be at least one and no more than ten, and it is announced through an official government notification.

Once the multiplier is set, the modified fine amount applies within that State. The State Government may also apply different multipliers to different classes of motor vehicles, as it classifies them for this purpose.

Subject to conditions made by the Central Government, a State Government, shall, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify a multiplier, not less than one and not greater than ten, to be applied to each fine under this Act and such modified fine, shall be in force in such State and different multipliers may be applied to different classes of motor vehicles as may be classified by the State Government for the purpose of this section.
