CHAPTER II LICENSING OF DRIVERS OF MOTOR VEHICLES

Summary

Each State Government must keep a register called the State Register of Driving Licences. The form of this register will be decided by the Central Government. This register covers driving licences that are issued and renewed by the licensing authorities of that State Government.

Under clause (a), the register must contain the names and addresses of people who hold driving licences.

Under clause (b), the register must contain the licence numbers.

Under clause (c), the register must contain the dates when licences were issued or renewed.

Under clause (d), the register must contain the dates when licences expire.

Under clause (e), the register must contain the classes and types of vehicles that each licence holder is allowed to drive.

Under clause (f), the register must contain any other details that the Central Government may prescribe.

Each State Government shall maintain, in such form as may be prescribed by the Central Government, a register to be known as the State Register of Driving Licences, in respect of driving licences issued and renewed by the licensing authorities of the State Government, containing particulars, including—

(a) names and addresses of holders of driving licences;

(b) licence numbers;

(c) dates of issue or renewal of licences;

(d) dates of expiry of licences;

(e) classes and types of vehicles authorised to be driven; and

(f) such other particulars as the Central Government may prescribe.]
