Negotiable Instruments Act Section 72 — Presentment of cheque to charge drawer
CHAPTER IV OF NEGOTIATION
General
Summary
For a cheque to make the drawer legally responsible for payment, it must be shown to the bank it is drawn on before anything changes between the drawer and their bank that would harm the drawer. If the bank relationship is altered in a way that disadvantages the drawer before the cheque is presented, the drawer may not be charged. This rule applies unless another provision of the Act says otherwise.
