CHAPTER VIII OF NOTICE OF DISHONOUR

Summary

If a cheque or other negotiable instrument is handed to an agent to present for payment, that agent gets the same amount of time to inform the owner about a dishonour as the owner themselves would have had. After the agent tells the owner, the owner then gets an equal additional period of time to give their own notice of dishonour to the parties who are liable on the instrument.

When the instrument is deposited with an agent for presentment, the agent is entitled to the same time to give notice to his principal as if he were the holder giving notice of dishonour, and the principal is entitled to a further like period to give notice of dishonour.
