Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act Section 1 — Short title, extent and commencement

Summary
Sub-section (1) gives the official name of this law: the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act, 1937.
Sub-section (2) states that this Act applies to the entire State of Tamil Nadu.
Under clause (a) of sub-section (3), this section, along with Sections 3 and 6 of the Act, takes effect immediately across the whole of Tamil Nadu.
Under clause (b) of sub-section (3), the remaining parts of the Act take effect in two ways: (i) in the district of Salem, they take effect immediately; and (ii) in any other local area within Tamil Nadu, they take effect on a date that the State Government chooses and announces through a formal notification.
Official Text
(1) This Act may be called the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act, 1937.
(2) It extends to the whole of the State of Tamil Nadu.
(3)
(a) This Section and Sections 3 and 6 shall come into force in the whole of the State of Tamil Nadu at once.
(b) The rest of this Act shall come into force— i. in the district of Salem, at once; and ii. in any other local area in the State of Tamil Nadu on such date as the State Government may, by notification, appoint.
